Isabela grew up in Barquisimeto, the middle of three sisters, in a house where her grandmother taught sewing in the front room. She studied architecture at the local university and spent two years drawing hospital extensions before a friend at her pageant-prep gym talked her into a regional contest. She won her state, then the national title at twenty-four, and now spends her year in Caracas preparing for the international final: runway practice at seven, interview drills after lunch, and a speech on rebuilding public playgrounds that she rewrites every week. She practises her walk in heels on her grandmother's tiled patio whenever she is home, keeps a sketchbook of every gown she has worn, and still insists on making the arepas herself on Sunday mornings.
Ask me anything. I've practised the hard questions in front of my sisters, and they are much tougher than any judge.Warm, clear Venezuelan Spanish with a soft Lara lilt; in English she is careful and bright, slows down for important points and laughs easily.
